As much as we enjoyed Kaleiçi and the Mono Hotel, we wanted to keep moving along the Mediterranean coast and see some of the other sights along the way. One last pic of the ruins in front of the hotel, then we were off to try and find where we parked our car.
We retraced our steps fairly easily, found our car and paid for the two days of parking (~$4/day). We headed out of downtown Antalya to find a couple waterfalls that were within an hour of the coast.
The first waterfall we stopped at was named Düden Waterfall, which again was a shocking surprise to find so near the city - and looked more like Hawaii or Costa Rica than what we pictured of Turkey.
There was a significant cave system behind the falls, including some bats!
In the parking lot they had camels to ride and even this baby camel!
Next we drove another 20 minutes to the Kurşunlu Waterfall, which was smaller but equally beautiful. We walked all through the park and took some nice pics and videos - how fun!
Goofing in the waterfall...
So far we had been staying in places that we had initially reserved before leaving home, as we’d hoped either Spain or Portugal would have opened for the U.S. to visit by now - not so. The next few nights we are just improvising as we go.
Tammy cleverly used our points to reserve this Hilton in Kemer for free, which is all inclusive and right on the water- what an amazing and spoiling find!
After checking in we spent the rest of the day laying by and playing in the water. The water was so warm, completely calm and indescribably clear, so was a little slice of unplanned bliss. This is the hotel’s pier:
The mountains come right down near the water
Enjoying the sea :-)
We stayed until sunset when the beach finally cleared out (although it wasn’t too busy most of the day)
We had a great dinner (ate way too much of course), then sat out enjoying the night having a few drinks. We slept like babies, because we finally had soft beds and pillows not meant for giants (we Americans must be dainty compared to the Turkish).
