We got to wake up to this view today, which was peaceful...but no coffee in the room so we went down and had the restaurant (part of the same place) make cappuccinos which they kindly did for free.
After realizing that there wasn’t breakfast included with this room, we made due with the odds & ends we still had with us (cereal, milk, fruit). Then we used a little of our morning to have one last dip in the Adriatic Sea - this is the front of the place we stayed...
Saying goodbye to the shoreline we packed up and headed down the peninsula toward Trpanj to catch a ferry back to the mainland. Due to the geography of the Balkans and the current COVID situation, we had to take this route (purple) to avoid crossing the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina (red) who don’t allow U.S. citizens (and with our scare yesterday we may not have gotten back into Croatia).
The countryside on the drive was beautiful and filled with wineries - reminded us very much of the Tuscan hills in Italy.
We reached the ferry terminal in Trpanj and had a couple hour until the next ferry ran, so we had coffees, a cheeseburger and a salad while we waited.
When we finished, we walked the small town and the piers (Tammy gave in to the call of the sea and got in the water one more time before we boarded the ferry). This is a unique feature to the port at Trpanj and protects one side of the marina.
Here is our last ferry ride pulling away from Trpanj
The ferry ride was only ~ 1 hr
to the port of Ploče on the mainland, so we had a quick nap on the ride over.
We drove another hour along the mainland on a fantastic toll freeway that passed back by Split. Our destination was the town of Skradin near Krka National Park which is our plan for tomorrow.
We had a little trouble finding the apartment (as per usual) but pulled in near 6:00p. After getting a little oriented, we headed into the small town to have dinner and buy a few groceries.
We had hoped to have a peka dinner, but realized too late that we need to make advanced reservations. Here is a peka oven after having been used (but not for us ☹️).
We ended up sharing some spaghetti bolognese which was good but didn’t even compare to the one we had in Stari Grad.
Walking back to the apartment along the marina we found these cheeky swans looking for free food...no sale from us :-).
We came back to the room and settled in for the night, catching up on mail, our last Croatian hotel booking and writing. After a martini nightcap, we turned in to get an early start for Krka NP in the morning.
