Island Hopping - Vis

Updated: Aug 14, 2020

We got up somewhat early to get breakfast and catch a 9:00a ferry to the island of Vis. Our tickets worked (whew) and we found the right dock to board the ferry (it is a really big & busy port). Here is a pic from the ferry leaving Split...

...and here is where Vis is relative to Split

We arrived on Vis and went to the hotel (Pomalo) - were able to check in early so didn’t have to carry our packs around. The host at the hotel gave us a good recommendation for scooter rental that was right around the corner from the hotel. We anxiously rented one, for the two of us, so we could explore the island. Here is Don on his bad motor scooter...

...and here we both are stylin’ our head gear...

...and some footage from the passenger seat.

We rode across the island to the small fishing village of Komiža and had a nice lunch on the water.

After lunch we walked the village and found a public beach...and it wasn’t that crowded! We swam for a while and had fun taking some pics

This church was on the hill as we left from Komiža,

A couple epic views of the water from the road back to Vis

On the old highway back to Vis we came across this place that offered wine tasting and snacks. Vis white wine is unique to just this island...and was only $2.50/glass, so Tammy had two. 🤪

What we learned about scooters: they can go right to the front of the parking areas, parking is free, they’re easy to get in and out tight streets, you can stop practically anywhere...and they won’t haul two people up some of the hills on Vis. Here is a map of the island - we basically followed the green road around.

We pulled into several public beaches and finally stopped at this one to cool off quickly.

As we came back down into Vis, there was this beautiful overview of the bay and town.

We got the scooter filled with gas (at the one station on the island) and returned it just in time. Then we took a break in the room for a bit and headed out for a walk along the waterfront and to look for dinner.

We walked the whole length of the waterfront only to end up back near the hotel to eat. We made it an early night since we need to catch the ferry off the island at Noon.
