Back to the City Life

We woke up late today, making up for the techno-music assault from last night. We were impressed by the server who remembered how we liked our coffees from the day before. When ordering our eggs, she struggled to translate “fried eggs” and instead said as “eggs with eyes” - made us laugh. While eating we watched as the beach people began to wake up and shake out the bed from last night and a couple slogged off the beach with their fire dancing stick in hand. Oh, and our breakfast lizard...

We planned to pack up right after we ate and find the way back to our car, anxious to see whether it was still safe. After asking the front desk, they said there was a turnout 200m up the dirt road where people wait for mini buses. Interestingly, we learned that the mini bus is 50TL and the fee is split by the number of people riding.

We quickly filled our backpacks and headed to the turnaround, which wasn’t immediately obvious so we stood in the wrong place for a bit before noticing a bus a little further up the road. We were the first two people there, so opted to wait a few minutes and fortunately another couple came - cut our fare in half :-).

The ride up was no less crazy than the way down, only now there was light and we could see the perilous cliff edges we were driving by...yikes.

We made it to the parking at the top of the hill and, to our delight, our car was fine *whew*. We got back on the paved crazy highway road and headed West toward Fethiye, pulling into a couple popular beaches to see what the hype was about (they were all very crowded). We made it to the Orka Boutique Hotel early, so had lunch in their restaurant overlooking the water and a walking/riding path. After eating we walked around the hotel area for 15min and our room was ready - yay!

After a nap and a call with Allyson, we got the car and headed into the main town, stopping by the old town shopping area. We strolled through looking a restaurants and shops, then clearly being in need of a shave, Don was drawn in by a Turkish barber for a straight razor shave, complete with the flame finish.

Shortly after we found a yummy looking pastry shop and bought a couple treats for dessert later in the room.

Our next stop was the notable Çalış Beach where we walked the boardwalk for a ways. It was getting pretty late so we headed to a popular looking restaurant we’d passed earlier called Sahil Lokantaları, which was likely a buffet pre-COVID but now was being served to the table and was delicious!

We made it back to the room a little later than normal, but were thankful for how the day turned out...and for our dessert.
